Westland Man Faces Federal Charges After Thousands of Suspected Child Sexual Abuse Files Traced to Home Internet
A Westland man is facing federal charges after investigators allege thousands of files containing child sexual abuse material were shared through an internet connection registered to his home.
Jiansong He was charged Thursday, October 1, in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan with distribution and receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to reporting based on the federal criminal complaint. The alleged activity occurred between July and August of this year. New Media Detroit
Investigators say the case began with activity detected on a peer-to-peer file-sharing network.
According to the complaint, Michigan State Police investigators downloaded 1,038 images and videos totaling approximately 50.4 GB between July 5 and July 9 from an IP address later connected to a Westland residence.
Investigators allege another 2,007 images and videos totaling approximately 12.7 GB were downloaded from the same IP address between August 10 and August 11. New Media Detroit
Records obtained from Comcast allegedly identified He as the subscriber associated with that internet connection.
Federal investigators executed a search warrant at the Westland residence on October 1.
According to the complaint, investigators examined a cellphone and desktop computer and allegedly discovered additional suspected child sexual abuse material. Investigators also reported finding material associated with Telegram on the devices. New Media Detroit
The complaint says He told investigators that his parents had moved from the residence approximately a year and a half earlier and that he was the only person currently living there. New Media Detroit
The distribution and receipt charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for a first conviction, according to the reporting on the complaint. New Media Detroit
