UPDATE: 18-Year-Old Monica Identified After Fatal Westland Apartment Shooting
We now know a little more about the young woman whose life was taken Sunday evening at a Westland apartment complex.
Her name was Monica. She was only 18 years old.
Monica was fatally shot at The Landings Apartments in Westland. Initial reports said multiple shell casings were found outside the complex and that a male suspect fled on foot before later being taken into custody.
Police have not yet publicly released the circumstances surrounding the shooting or what relationship, if any, existed between Monica and the person reportedly arrested.
But today, this story is becoming about more than a police investigation.
A GoFundMe created by Monica's friend, Angelina Haas, describes her as deeply loved by her family and friends and someone who had her entire life ahead of her.
"Monica deserved to grow up. She deserved a future. She deserved so much more time," Haas wrote.
The fundraiser is helping Monica's family with funeral and memorial expenses and other needs as they deal with her sudden death.
Friends are also asking for justice for Monica.
She was 18.
There should have been a whole lot more of her story left to tell.
